Follow Sunnah, Deaf Accountable, Friends, Sin and Pride, Repentance

Weekly Hadith – Follow the Sunnah;
Allah (Subhanawa taála) says in His Perfect Word, “But they (people) will not cease to disagree. Except him on whom your Lord Has bestowed His Mercy."  [Al- Hud, 118]

On the authority Al-Irbad ibn Sariyah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated “ Allah´s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) gave us an exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid.
A man said Állah´s Messenger, it seems as if this was a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do you give us?´ He (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) said Í enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be a slave, for those of you who will live after me will see a great disagreement. You must then follow my Sunnah, and that of the rightly guided successors. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, as every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.´” 
[Abu Da´wud, at-Tirmidhee] 

The state in which the Muslim Ummah finds itself today is by no means a state of perfect unity, as it should be. Ideological differences, political bigotry, nationalism of the days of ignorance and various other factors have created divisions and sects amongst Muslims around the world.
However, this should not come as a surprise to a believer, since the disagreements were foreseen by our Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) as is given in the above hadith.
But the very same narration from the best of Man (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) gives us the solution to defeat these differences and attain success before Allah (Subhana wa taála), and that is by adhering to the Sunnah of the Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) and the pious successors (i.e. by following the ways of the Prophet Muhammad in words, actions and deeds, and those of the rightly guided successors).  Adhering to the Sunnah means shunning differences, and establishing a unity of purpose. We should all endeavour to educate ourselves regarding the Sunnah, and encourage one another to live our lives by it, which in itself will remove all the existent divergences.

May Allah (Subhana wa taála) demolish the walls of division that the Ummah has constructed amongst itself over time, and open our eyes and minds so that we truly can see that constant disagreement is a sign of the absence of Allah´s Mercy. Instead we should correct ourselves by following the path of our Noble Prophet (salAllahu lalyhi wasallam) and the successors (radiAllahu anhuma) as undoubtedly this is the only path to securing our Aakhirah inshaÁllah.

“He whose sin is due to desire, then have hope for him; and he whose sin is due to pride, then fear for him. Because Adam (alayhis-salaam) sinned due to desire, and he was forgiven; and Iblis sinned due to pride, and he was cursed.”

Q. Are those who are deaf and mute accountable, and do they have to do the obligatory duties prescribed in sharee’ah?

 Praise be to Allaah. 

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Baaz explained that the child who is deaf and mute, when he reaches the age of puberty, is considered to be accountable and expected to fulfil the obligations of prayer, etc.
He added that he may be taught what he needs to know by means of writing or signing, because of the general meaning of the shar’i evidence which indicates that these obligations apply to everyone who reaches the age of puberty and is of sound mind.

Puberty is reached at the age of fifteen, or when maniy (discharge) is emitted as a result of feeling desire in a dream (“wet dream”) or otherwise, and when coarse hair grows around the private parts. In the case of women, there is a fourth sign of puberty, which is the onset of menstrual periods. 

The shaykh called upon the guardian of the one who is deaf or mute to pay zakaah and fulfil other financial obligations on his behalf. He also has to teach him what he does not know by all possible means so that he will understand what Allaah requires of him and what Allaah has forbidden for him.
The shaykh quoted as evidence the words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning):
“So keep your duty to Allaah and fear Him as much as you can”
[Al-Taghaabun 64:16]

And the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “If I command you to do a thing, then do as much of it as you can.”
And the shaykh explained that the accountable person who cannot hear or speak, or who becomes unable to hear or speak, should fear Allaah and keep his duty towards Him as much as he can by doing that which is enjoined upon him and abstaining from that which is haraam. He should try to learn as much of the religion as possible, by watching, writing and signing, so that he may understand what is required.

Weekly Suggested Good Deed – Appreciate your Friends; 
Appreciate your Friends, and let them know it...

Good friends are a blessing from Allah (Subhana wa´taála). We laugh with them, share our happiness with them, and can fall back on them in our times of need and difficulty. But not many of us express our appreciation for them as often as we should.
 Our Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) said, "If one of you loves his brother then let him inform him of that." So we should take this advice and let them know of their importance to us, if not with the use of words then definitely through our actions. Take it from one with experience that when they are not around, one really feels the gap of their absence, and realises their importance and value. 


Dua of the Week;
Dua of  Repentance and Refuge from Ill-Feelings/Jealousy towards others:


 Transliteration: 
"Rabbanaghfir lana wa li-ikhwaninal ladhinal sabaquna bil-Imani wa la taj'al fi qulubina ghillan lil ladhina aamanu  Rabbana innaka Ra'ufur Rahim."

Translation:
"Our Lord! forgive us and those of our brethren who had precedence over us in faith, and do not allow any spite to remain in our hearts towards those who believe, Our Lord! surely Thou art Kind, Merciful." [Al-Hashr, 10]
