The Ramadan Note - Laylatul Qadr (Night of Power)
When is Laylatul Qadr
Seek Laylatul Qadr, the night that is better than a thousand months, as the Prophet (BPUH) said:
"Search for the Blessed Night in the odd (nights) from the last ten (nights) of Ramadan"
As far as determining the Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr) is concerned, it has been reported to be during one of the odd-numbered nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan as you can see from the hadith above, and this is the safest method to follow i.e.
The nights to make the extra effort in Dhikr, Quran and Salah are:
21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th AND 29th Night of Ramadan.
Virtues of Night of Power
Allah says in the Qur'an in Surah Al-Qadr:
"We have indeed revealed this (message) in the Night of Power. And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
The Angels and Jibreel descend in it by the permission of their Lord for every affair. Peace! it is till the break of the morning"
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said about Lailatul-Qadr:
It was narrated by Abu Hurayra that Prophet (PBUH) said,
"Anyone who stays awake for the Night of Power with belief and for the pleasure of Allah, all his previous sins will be forgiven."

How We Should Approach This Blessed Night
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadaan as he never did at any other time, praying, reading Qur’aan and making du’aa’.
Al-Bukhaari and Muslim narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that when the last ten days of Ramadaan came, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would stay up at night and would wake his family up, and would abstain from marital relations.
Ahmad and Muslim narrated that he used to used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadaan as he never did at any other time.

Duah and Best Actions For Night
DUA for LAYLA-tul-QADR (to be read in the last ten days):
Allahumma innaka 'affuwan tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu'-anni
Translation: O Allah, indeed You are the Forgiver, You love forgiveness, so forgive me.
The ways to benefit from the blessings of Laylatul Qadr:
a. Recitation of the Qur'an.
b. Prayers – Nafl/Tahajood after Taraweeh.
c. Remembrance of Allah and Dhikr
d. Supplication or Du'a for yourself and for others, make sincere duah for guidance and taqwa in this
dunyah and for Jannah in the Akhirah and to be saved from punishment and hellfire.
The Night of Power is a very important occasion in Islam. This Night is a Night of Mercy, Night of
Blessing, Night of Peace, Night of Guidance.
