As far as determining the Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr) is concerned, it has been reported to be during one of the odd-numbered nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan.
Seek Laylatul Qadr, the night that is better than a thousand months. The remaining odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadan 1441AH/2020CE are in sha Allah:
21st night - Wed 13th May
23rd night - Fri 15th May
25th night - Sun 17th May
27th night - Tue 19th May
29th night - Thu 21st May
The Prophet (ﷺ; peace be upon him) said: "Search for the Blessed Night in the odd (nights) from the last ten (nights) of Ramadan.” [Bukhari]
Allah says in the Qur'an in Surah Al-Qadr: ”We have indeed revealed this (message) in the Night of Power. And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. The Angels and Jibreel descend in it by the permission of their Lord for every affair. Peace! it is till the break of the morning" [Surah al-Qadr 97:1-5]
The Prophet (ﷺ; peace be upon him) said: ”Anyone who stays awake for the Night of Power with belief and for the pleasure of Allah, all his previous sins will be forgiven.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]
Aisha (radiAllahu ‘anha; may Allah be pleased with her) reported: ”The messenger of Allah ﷺ used to strive more in worship during Ramadan than he strove in any other time of the year; And he would devote himself more (In the worship of Allah) in the last 10 nights of Ramadan than he did in earlier part of the month.” [Sahih Muslim]
We have a unique opportunity this year to have a special relationship with Allah in these special nights. To ask Him for protection from the Shaytan and from our own desires. To talk to Him about the fears we have and ask for Him to give us strength, the only strength and confidence worth relying upon. To thank Him for all the blessings in our lives and really take a moment in each of these nights in private to reflect upon what we have achieved to date that is directly pleasing to Allah and ask Him to make us of those that all our actions are those of ibaadah with the highest of intentions. We should all want to meet Allah and we should ask Allah to protect our hearts, tongues and limbs so that we are able to meet Him in the best of ways and make it for us the best of days. Do not lose the opportunity for a lifetime of rewards from a single night of worship and do not miss the opportunity to have our sins pardoned.
To ensure you get the reward of 83 years of the best of actions in a single night:
Recite Qur’an daily: Reciting the Book of Allah in Arabic is an ibaadah and attempting to understand the tafsir is also ibaadah.
Lots of Dhikr: Mentioning the name of Allah in forms of praise is an ibaadah.
Supplication/Dua: Not just for yourself but for others, for making dua for others the Angels also make dua for you. Remember those in desperate need around the world and ask for Allah to provide our ummah permanent relief.
Voluntary Prayers: Prostrate with extra Tahajjud salah in the last third of the night to connect with Allah at the time when He is waiting to answer duas.
Charity: Even as little as £1 if not able to give more because regardless of our situation if any of us are reading this we still have access to more than those in desperate need out there and we should be thankful Allah has blessed us with what we have.
"When the race horse knows that it is nearing the end of the track it exerts all of its effort to win the race. Do not allow the race horse to be more clever than you. For verily, deeds are judged by their conclusions. So if you didn’t do well with welcoming Ramadan then perhaps you will do better bidding it farewell."
Ibn al-Jawzi(Rahimuhullah; may Allah have mercy on him)
