“And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision” [Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:169]
3 years has passed since 15th March 2019 when the world witnessed the horrific terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand across 2 Masaajid including the martyrdom of 3 year old Mucaad Ibrahim!
51 souls returned back to their Lord on that day, 40 were injured and a global population were left deeply scarred upon witnessing the harrowing event which was live streamed by the vile attacker. It is gut wrenching and difficult to comprehend the level of sickness and hate this individual had within him to carry out this devastating attack in the way in which he did.
Unfortunately, our attention spans are very short nowadays as we are flooded with news of tragedy upon tragedy, attacks and her victims. We often lack depth when grieving for others. How many a times especially in the wake of the pandemic have we replied with a dua via social media/sms without verbalising it and pausing to sincerely make dua for the grief stricken?
It is worth taking a moment to read about the Shuhadah (martyrs), which will ignite a sense of closeness to these individuals for whom we will immerse in duas and for their brave families. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/3/22/new-zealand-mosque-attack-who-were-the-victims
May Allah (‘azza wa jal; The Possessor of Complete Glory and Majesty) unite this group of blessed people in the highest ranks of Jannah, ameen!
This is an opportunity for us to reflect individually at what we have achieved in the fight against hate, discrimination, and injustice. All of us are bestowed with varying degrees of strength and capability, and we have a role to play for which we are accountable to our Creator.
Let the blood of these martyrs not be in vain and allow it to water the seed of hope where we work together to remove religious intolerance across all spheres of life.
Find a moment in your day every day to connect with Allah in Dua. This week, try to wake up at least once before Fajr and stand before our Creator in voluntary salaah. This is a beautiful gift and an opportunity for us to supplicate so He may answer us, grant us and forgive us.
"O Soul! Get tired a little so you can rest in Al-Firdaws a lot."
Ibn Jawzi(Rahimahullah; May Allah have mercy on him)
