Recent reports of a heinous act involving the burning of the Quran have undoubtedly left many of us devastated and outraged. The Quran holds a special place in our hearts as believers, and the thought of its desecration is intolerable. But as we process our emotions, we must ask ourselves: when was the last time we had a genuine connection with the Quran?
Ramadan, the month of the Quran, the month of mercy, in which the Quran was revealed, is less than two months away. This serves as a potent reminder that we must strengthen our relationship with the Quran now more than ever. The Quran is not only a book to be revered and protected, but also a source of daily guidance and inspiration.
But what are our true emotions when we witness the Quran being burned? Are our emotions based on a deep connection to Allah's words, or are they merely superficial responses? Allah says in the Quran: "This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you O Prophet so that they may contemplate its verses, and people of reason may be mindful.” [Surah Sad 38:29]
Abu Umamah (radiAllahu’anhu; may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ; peace be upon him) saying: "Read the Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection." [Muslim]
It is time for us to ask ourselves whether we have truly internalised the Quran's teachings. Are we living according to its instruction? If not, the time has come to change, to read, to reflect, and to reconnect. May Allah grant us the ability, ameen!
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ; peace be upon him) said: “After the tashahhud (in Salah), one should seek Allah’s protection from four things by saying (the below).” [Muslim 588]
He (ﷺ; peace be upon him) also said: “If anyone learns the first ten verses of Surah al-Kahf by heart, he will be protected from Dajjal.” [Muslim 809]
"The Qur’an is the rope of Allah. It is the one that guides to the truth, and it is the one that is not cut off."
Uthman ibn Affan(radiAllahu’anhu; may Allah be pleased with him)
