Allah (Subhana wa ta’aala; the Most Glorified the Most High) tells us in His Perfect Words: “And the Messenger has said “O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as something abandoned.” [Al-Furqan 25:30]
In the month of Ramadan, many of us make a concerted effort to read the Qur’an understand it, build our relationship with it. We invest time in making a plan as to how we will complete a mus’haf, and more often or not we achieve it Alhamdulillah or at least get close. But how many times can we honestly say we have picked up the Qur’an since Ramadan, tried to improve our recitation and understanding of it, and memorize it?
The scholars have said that the Prophet (ﷺ; peace be upon him) will make this complaint to Allah (Subhana wa ta’aala; the Most Glorified the Most High) in the way that he does as the Qur’an stands witness on the Day of Judgement. The reference to ‘this Qur’an’ (as opposed to ’the Qur’an’, or ‘that Qur’an’) is to indicate that the Qur’an was near, and accessible to all of his ummah. Yet we still chose to abandon it, because we were too busy with our affairs of this world.
So reassess how much you are prioritizing the Qur’an while you have the time. Does it govern your life, morals and actions, or is it an afterthought? May Allah (Subhana wa ta’aala; the Most Glorified the Most High) save us from being amongst those that are included in the Prophet’s (ﷺ; peace be upon him) complaint, Ameen.
Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu ‘anhu; may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him (ﷺ; peace be upon him), said: “There is a chapter in the Quran of thirty verses, which will intercede for its companion until he is forgiven: Blessed is He in whose Hand is the dominion.” (67:1) [Sunan Abī Dāwūd]
Have an aim to memorise an ayah a day from Surah Mulk across the next 30 days.
Familiarise yourself with this beautiful Surah by reading it every night from tonight. Read it with your family and rejoice in the tranquility of the heart from reading the blessed book of Allah.
"If our hearts were pure, we would never get bored from reciting the Qur’an."
