Those following the news, in particular the UK, will know how chaotic and eventful the last few weeks have been in terms of political and economic instability. As a result, there is a lot of uncertainty ahead for many of us and it is natural to feel nervous or even worried. However, as Muslims, we must strengthen our mindset confidently knowing that Allah (‘azza wa jal'; The Possessor of Complete Glory and Majesty) is Ar-Razzaq (الرَّزَّاقُ), the provider who creates sustenance for all His creation.
It was reported by Umar ibn al-Khattab (radiAllahu’anhu; may Allah be pleased with him), Prophet (ﷺ; peace be upon him) said ”If you were to rely upon Allah with reliance due to Him, He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning with empty stomachs and return full.” [Tirmidhi – Grade: Sahih]
The comparison to the birds highlights the magnitude of Allah (Subhana wa ta’aala; the Most Glorified the Most High)’s sustenance which extends to all creation and not just humans. Thus helping us to remember the importance of relying upon Ar-Razzaq, our Sustainer.
Our level of eman is actualised during difficult and uncertain times. "Verily, the patience is at the first stroke of a calamity." [Sahih Al Bukhari 1283]
Our faith is strengthened upon reflection of all the blessings which we have been bestowed with and those difficult moments which Allah helped us to overcome, often when we least expected it. Therefore let us put our trust in Allah.
“Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, ‘When (will come) the Help of Allah?’ Yes! Certainly, the Help of Allah is near!” [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:214]
Allah (Subhana wa ta’aala; the Most Glorified the Most High) says “…They planned, and God planned, but God is the Best of planners.” [Surah Al-Anfal 8:30]. This verse should give believers faith that whatever happens, good or bad, Allah is the master of all planners. Our sincere reliance should be with Allah and we should constantly be working on getting closer to him through our worship and our actions.
"No amount of worrying can change the future. Go easy on yourself, for the outcome of all affairs is determined by God's decree. If something is meant to go elsewhere, it will never come your way, but if it is yours by destiny, from you it cannot flee."
Umar ibn al-Khattab(radiAllahu’anhu; may Allah be pleased with him)
