Allah reminds us in the Magnificent Qur’an, "Is it not with the remembrance of Allah that hearts find rest?" [Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28]
We can't help but be amazed at how the righteous before us were able to endure the challenges of life the way they did. It really did seem as if nothing could rock them, and the above aayah was the secret to their contentment.
One of the key ingredients that facilitated this for them was the obsessive remembrance of Allah. Abu Huraira's (radiAllahu’anhu; may Allah be pleased with him) daily portion of Tasbeeh (saying "SubhanAllah") was 12,000 times. Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimuhullah; may Allah have mercy on him) would perform the Fajr prayer, then would remain sat down remembering Allah till around just before noon time, and would say: "This is my lunch. If I don't have it, my strength forsakes me." Their speech was never devoid of it, thus it became the cure to their illnesses, the healing for their wounds and their energy to progress.
May Allah help us in keeping our tongues moist with the remembrance of Allah and sync our heart and limbs with that remembrance – Ameen.
Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu’anhu; may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ; peace be upon him) said, "There are two statements that are light for the tongue to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful… [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
"Whenever you make duah, it is a sign that Allah (SWT) loves you and has intended good for you."
Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyya(rahimuhullah; may Allah have mercy on him)
