Your life can change in a split second, without you even anticipating or realising it. There are no guarantees whatsoever. You could be living comfortably with no financial hardship and all of a sudden, you may be the recipient of Zakat funds. Turkey has provided the most aid to Syrian refugees of any Muslim country. They are always willing to assist others. Now is the time to support and rebuild Turkey, as well as other affected countries. The Prophet (ﷺ; peace be upon him) said: “Whoever meets the need of his brother, Allah will meet his needs.” [Agreed upon; al-Bukhari, 3/98; Muslim, 4/1996]
Everyone is aware of the devastation caused by natural disasters. There are a few points on which we must reflect and act in order for events such as these to cause us to become better Muslims
1. Reaffirm that Allah (ﷻ; The Possessor of Complete Glory and Majesty) is Al-Hkim (The Supreme Ruler) and Al-Hakm (The Most Wise): Allah’s control and governance is full of supreme wisdom and divine justice. Hence even in natural disasters, there is the hidden wisdom of the Almighty, which may not be apparent to our physical eyes.
2. Turn towards Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala; May He be glorified and exalted) in repentance: Natural disasters are “wake up” calls from Allah. Allah in His infinite mercy is jolting us through such incidents, so that we may reflect on our transgression and mend our ways, and as a result rectify ourselves before it is too late.
3. Sincere Dua’s and Donate generously: People who live far away from the affected area can help and support by making dua and providing financial and material assistance. When there was an earthquake, ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz (rahimuhullah; may Allah have mercy on him) would write to his governors telling them to give in charity.’ [Ibn Abi Dunya]
May Allah (ﷻ, the Mighty and Sublime) guide the rescuers' hands, multiply their number, and make their task easy. May He comfort the survivors trapped inside the debris as He did Prophet Yunus ('alayhis salaam; upon him be peace) while he was in the whale, and bring them out safely. May He help us come together to help the survivors of this and other tragedies - Ameen.
[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimuhullah; may Allah have mercy on him)]
"Dua is one of the most beneficial remedies. It is the enemy of calamity; it repels it, cures it, prevents its occurrence, and alleviates it or reduces it if it befalls [one]. It is the weapon of the believer."
